A Season For Scarves

I have been having a lot of fun with scarves lately. After moving in with a group of wonderful girls who were scarf fanatics I soon too grew to love a good scarf as an accessory or a necessity in this cold weather. But as a sewer it presented as a challenge to create scarves that were fashionable and fun and incorporate my vintage buttons! A friend gave me a great idea and I went with it and expanded as I found new fabrics and new shapes. Here is a little look at the scarves I have been creating lately, both for myself and others! If you want one, that can be arranged!!!

Softest stretch material ever. I love plaid, I always have, and a scarf is a great way to incorporate it into your wardrobe without going overboard and looking like a private school girl!
The pink is my favorite and I wear it all the time. Thanks to Anne for such a great way to use my wonderful buttons in a fashionable way! My roommate rocks this one as well and I have many more in stock if you want to be as cute as us this season!
The grey and green are made from a light stretch material. They are very soft and comfy! And talk about great fall colors!

This one is made from a thick wool. VERY warm!!!

Change Of Plans!

There has been a change of plans regarding the hair pieces I have been posting on my blog!!! Its time to go big or go home. I will no longer be accepting orders online as I need time to mass produce in time for the KRIS KRINGLE CRAFT MARKET in Parksville!!! No words can express how excited I am to show my work at the market. So if you were thinking of purchasing a flower I now encourage you to make your way down to Parksville on Nov 24, 25, 26 or 27th and stop by my table. I will be selling flowers as well as a collection of scarves and skirts! For more detail about the fair you can visit the webpage here!

Don't worry those of you who have already put in an order, I have it completed already and you will get your flowers very soon!!!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this quick decision, and to my roommates for putting up with the large mess of fabric that has recently accumulated in the living room!!!

More To Look At

Here is the most recent photo shoot done with my roommate Leah. All of these flowers are also for sale!!

This one here is a large flower done in a grey stretch material. Very Casual, Very Fun. It has been attached to a headband and can slide along the headband for perfect placement!

Next is the large patterned silk flower I mentioned in yesterdays post. This is one of my favorites!

This final set of pictures is just for fun, I am not selling these ones this Christmas season. They are a lot more work but are very old fashioned and completely stunning!

Thank you to my beautiful roommates for being my hair models! They did a wonderful job of showing off my creations!

If you like what you see let me know (flowers, not my roommate - shes taken!) and take a look at yesterdays post to see how you can purchase them just in time for Christmas gifts, or to make a statement at your office Christmas part this year!

Time To Shop

Post One of Two displaying the cute and wonderful creations that are finally available to you!

First things first

Below is a sample of the tulle flowers that I make. They are the simplest and lightest of my hairpieces and are an easy accessory to add to any outfit. I wear them frequently either dressed up or casual and they really add to your total look without being too bold!

I am selling the tulle flowers for $10. Each one is attached to a nifty bobby pin that clips securely into place. I can make these in a wide range of colors so let me know what your favorite is!

Now if you are a little bolder and looking for a more formal look I would recommend the silk flower! These have been a house favorite  for weddings and girls night out. Not only are these flowers beautiful but they also incorporate buttons from my vintage button collection making them originals! You can read about my buttons in my post Better With Buttons! Below are a few of my current creations. There is more to come as I will be doing a photo shoot with my new pieces tomorrow!

These silk flowers with a vintage button are being sold for $15. They also come in several colors. I have purple, black, white, and a patterned silk (you will see this one tomorrow) available now and other colors by special request. The glitter you see on the third flower is also available upon request!

Finally my new additions! Below you will see my cloth flowers! These can be made with or without a vintage button. These flowers as so fun and can be either casual or formal and can be incorporated into so many hair styles so easily! I hope you love them as much as I do!

The cloth flowers can also be made in a range of colors. I currently have Black, Pink, Yellow, Teal, Blue, and Purple. Other colors by special request.
These flowers also range in size, as you can see! The small flowers like the cutie pie pink and the black/ teal rose are sold for $10 and the big bold ones like my favorite yellow flower sell for $15.

All flowers can be attached to either a nifty bobby pin that clips into place or a standard black headband.

I hope you have enjoyed what I have to show you so far and are looking forward for what is to come. I am taking orders for the Christmas season from now until November 30th and will guarantee that all flowers are made by December 12th. If you do not live in Nanaimo all flowers will be shipped by that date. Shipping is not included in the prices above.

If you would like to place an order you can comment below or send me an email to ashleystauffer@hotmail.com

Please include your name. The type of flower(s) you would like, the color of flower(s), if you would like an original vintage button at the center of your flower(s), and if you would like it attached to a pin or a head band.

Christmas Is Coming

With Christmas around the corner I would like to help you with gift giving this year, and In return give back to the people of Nanaimo at this festive time of year! Within the next two days I will be making a post that has all of the flowers and other sewing projects that I will be making to sell for this Christmas season. I am going to donate 10% of the money raised to Loaves and Fishes, the local food bank!

Now don't think that you have to be from Nanaimo to support this great cause!!! Not only are you supporting a charity in my local town but you are also supporting me in my development of my new at home business! With your support we can feed Nanaimo and clothe them as well with custom Rip' N Stitch clothing and accessories!

Flower Power

I have always been one of those girls who envied the girls who could wear big, trendy flowers in their hair. I think that they looked so stylish and so sophisticated. And then one day it hit me, Ashley you can pull off hair pieces, you just need to find ones that suit you. And so began my obsession with silk flowers and hair pieces. But you see I can't purchase them from a store because thats not original, so I started to make them on my own. So here is a little sneak peak of what I have made so far. I am currently experimenting with glitter and it seems to be turning out really well, and of course I am drawing ideas from my new collection of buttons! I can't wait to see how my creations turn out! If you like them or are in need of a fashion statement for your next big event let me know. I love doing custom work!!!

Better With Buttons

Two very exciting things have occurred today!

Firstly, IN STITCHES has made its way to the blogging world! Blogging is new to me so you will have to be patient with me as a continue to figure it all out. IN STITCHES is the newest addition to my at home sewing business, Rip 'N Stitch. This summer I worked on establishing a small at home business that I hope to expand as a learn and grow as a seamstress. I am currently employed by a company that produces a new age medical alert bracelet made from velcro and webbing. They are stylish and practical, if only I had invented them!! They required me to have a business name to order from and pay to and so Rip 'N Stitch was created. IN STITCHES will focus more on the personal expansion part of my business, custom design! I am self taught and enjoy playing around with fabric and buttons and zippers and whatnot and have come up with unique creations that my friends go crazy for, and so now I have a way to share them with you!

Now back to my excitement!!

Secondly, I am now the proud owner of a very large collection of vintage buttons! There are hundreds of them. They were given to me by a very kind older gentleman that I meet while working in the community for nursing school. We were talking and he took interest in my passion for sewing and offered me his collection of vintage buttons that he had no use for. We agreed that I would make a donation to his penny jar for children, he was raising money to give to a less fortunate school for Christmas, in exchange for the buttons. You will be glad to know that I added more then a penny to the jar, I donated 2000 pennies to his collection and he added a few hundred buttons to mine! What a small price to pay for a priceless collection that came from an old Singer factory that shut down YEARS ago. So thank you to my new friend. And now I need to sort and organize, this could take a while....

A few of my favorite metal buttons from the collection. They are going to be great additions to the ideas I have for silk flower hair pieces and vintage style dresses! I can't wait to get to work.

And here is a view of what was left after I had filled every storage container I own. I am going to need some more button boxes I think.
Stay tuned for a sneak peak of how I use buttons in the hair pieces I make! I will upload photos soon!
